it’s a little blurry (no scanner in our house), but here it is – the profile of our baby girl! she doesn’t have a name yet, but i’ve been surprised at how much more bonded to her i feel now that we know what she is. at twenty weeks tomorrow, we’re halfway there, and it feels so much more real now – she has a spine! and a four-chambered, beating heart! and kidneys! and leg bones! and we saw them all!

a few words from martin luther king, jr.:

“Have we not come to such an impasse in the modern world that we must love our enemies – or else? The chain reaction of evil – hate begetting hate, wars producing more wars – must be broken, or else we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation.

“I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. This is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant.

I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality… I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.

To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing.

helloooo, internet world! (if any of you are still checking in, in spite of my ridiculous lack of posting)

happy 2008! i strongly suspect that the two halves of this year will be vastly different in our family – the last six months of being DINKs (“double income, no kids”) and the first six life-changing months of figuring out how to parent this little fox cub that is growing rapidly. all is going well so far – i’m convinced that i can feel the little bugger moving, but i don’t think i’m really supposed to yet. anyway, we’ll find out the gender sometime this month. any guesses? everyone seems to think it’s a girl, including us. i’ll be honest – girls scare me a little. or a lot. but then i remember that i, too, am a girl, and i don’t think i’m really all that scary. also, she really doesn’t have to wear pink. and, ultimately, i have a feeling it will be scary and thrilling and amazing no matter the gender, so all is well.

aside from adding a new member to our family, the other thing that i’m inordinately excited about for the new year is the election of a new leader of the free world. honestly, i’m pretty not political and a lot political at the same time. for example – i can’t wait for the iowa caucauses tomorrow because, as of yesterday, My Favorite Candidate Ever has jumped ahead of clinton and edwards in the des moines register polls, and we all know that these first states set the tone for the rest of the election. also, dennis kucinich (who was my “100% candidate match” on an internet quiz i took in 2004) has endorsed obama, which should be good for getting all of the pacifists on board. 🙂 i’ve finally been learning a little more about the republican candidates as well, due to some downtime to look at newsweek at work, and if someone backed me into a corner and forced me to choose one of them, i would probably go for huckabee at this point, which surprises me a little. or maybe mccain. but no one is backing me into a corner, so i think it will be just fine.

who do you choose?
